Strategy, Change and Project Management - The Links

24 December 2013

All organisations need a strategy, ideally one that is sustainable to cope with changing economic conditions. Some organisations are able to predict the future and make some changes in advance; but most organisations have change thrust upon them.

The strategy is therefore subject to two types of change: self-imposed and externally demanded.

These changes can be either gradually absorbed into the business and operations, or they can be radical. The more radical they are, the greater the need for a deliberate action to enable the change, often through a project or series of related projects.

We therefore have a situation in which the strategy needs some change to the company, and this in turn requires a clearly definition of the purpose of that change, and one or more projects to enable that change.

Strategy, change and projects are therefore inextricably linked.
